In the early morning, as the sun slowly illuminated the streets of Gandhi Nagar, I noticed the vibrant energy of the people bustling about, getting ready for their day at work and school.
Amongst the commotion, I heard the distinct voice of an elderly woman passionately calling out about fresh vegetables. Intrigued, I approached her and initiated a conversation.
When I asked for her name, she proudly introduced herself as Maruthayammal. It became evident that Iswarya Nagar and Gandhi Nagar were fortunate to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic vegetable seller.
Maruthayammal had a deep passion for providing fresh vegetables to the residents of these neighborhoods, as well as Anna Kudiyiruppu.
Her commitment to her trade was admirable, and she tirelessly worked to ensure that the community had access to high-quality produce. Maruthayammal’s presence added vibrancy to the streets and served as a reminder of the importance of local vendors in supporting the daily needs of the people.
It was inspiring to witness the dedication and passion of this iron lady as she went about her work, serving the community with fresh vegetables.

Despite her age, Maruthayammal had no desire to stay idle at home. She resided in Mariyammal Nagar but hailed from NC Pudhur, and each day she started her selling venture in the streets as early as 6 o’clock.
Her dedication to her work and community was evident, and she continued to serve with enthusiasm and energy, embodying the spirit of an industrious and determined individual.
Maruthayammal firmly believed that working hard for the people and fulfilling her duty to worship God were her utmost responsibilities. She proudly expressed her commitment to never neglect her duties for anything.
