Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram) Ltd: A Legacy in Public Transit

Introduction

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram) Ltd has been a cornerstone in public transit since its inception in 1975, starting with a fleet of 172 buses. Its primary mission has been to provide efficient, economical, and well-coordinated transportation services to the residents of North Arcot, South Arcot Districts, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Evolution and Restructuring

Throughout its history, this corporation underwent pivotal transformations. In 1983, the establishment of M/s. Pattukottai Azhagiri Transport Corporation and subsequently, in 1992, M/s. Puratchi Thalaivar M.G.R. Transport Corporation expanded the region’s transportation network significantly.

Rebranding and Unification

In 1997, a strategic rebranding initiative led to the renaming of the divisions as Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram Division-I, Division-II, and Division-III). However, on 30.12.2003, these entities were unified, forming the cohesive Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram) Limited.

Expansion and Current Operations

Establishing its corporate office at Villupuram and regional offices across strategic locations, the corporation expanded its operational reach. Presently encompassing six regions, it caters to the transportation needs of residents in Villupuram, Kallakuruchi, Cuddalore, Vellore, Thirupathur, Ranipet, Thiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Thiruvallur Districts, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

As of 31.07.2022, the corporation continued its unwavering commitment, operating a robust fleet of 3287 buses, ensuring comprehensive and efficient transportation services for the public.
