The genesis of State Transport Undertakings (STUs) in Tamil Nadu has a notable history:
Establishment of Pallavan Transport Corporation
On January 1, 1972, Pallavan Transport Corporation was established under the Companies Act, 1956. It initially operated buses in Chennai and Chengalpattu and served as the foundation for the emergence of other State Transport Undertakings in the region.
Evolution and Expansion
Between 1972 and 1996, a total of 21 STUs were created through bifurcation, marking the expansion and development of public transportation services in Tamil Nadu. These undertakings emerged from the division of existing entities and played a crucial role in providing transportation services across different regions.
