The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is a state-owned public bus transport service in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the oldest state-run public transport systems in India, established in 1938 .
Here’s a quick about the KSRTC:
- Divided into three zones: South, Central and North
- Headquarters: Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala’s capital city)
- Fleet: Over 6,241 buses
- Routes: Over 6,389 routes
- Daily commuters: Over 3.145 million
The KSRTC plays a vital role in enhancing Kerala’s road connectivity. It operates buses within Kerala and also to neighboring states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
In 2015, the Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC) was formed under KSRTC to manage affairs related to urban transportation.
To overcome financial struggles, a separate company, KSRTC-SWIFT, was established in 2021 to handle the long-distance operations of the Kerala Road Transport Corporation.
