Groundnut is raised mostly as a rainfed kharif crop, being sown from May to June, depending on the
monsoon rains.
In Pollachi, groundnut and maize are sown next to coconut in agriculture.
Thaipattam from January to April is one of the major sowing seasons for groundnut in Tamil Nadu.
Farmers harvested ground nuts in the areas near Pollachi including puravipalayam, Anaimalai,
Angalakurichi,NM Sungam and Thuraiyur.
Groundnuts grow best in sandy soil with less than 15% clay. The best time to plant is from early
November to no later than 25 November.
